Step by Step Hot Water Pastry
Knowing how to make a tender flaky pie crust is part of being a good cook. And it's easy, especially with my recipe for Hot Water Pastry. With this recipe there's no fooling around with ice water and cutting in butter or shortening. The trick to the pastry is to make sure that the water and shortening are combined and really fluffy before adding the flour. This takes some time, but it will happen! Debra, About’s Guide to French Cuisine, suggests Rolled Roasted Peppers Stuffed with Mozzarella (aka Rouleaux de Poivrons). To make these even quicker use good quality roasted peppers in jars. Just remember to use the best olive oil you can for that extra flavor boost. And Smashed Beans and Mozzarella served on Toaste Baguette Slices (Tartines aux Fèves) is delicious. Oh, I know most people turn up their nose at lima beans. But you may change your mind with this recipe for smashed lima beans mixed with Parmesan, lemon juice and basil. And these are a perfect match with a cold beer.
Speaking of beer, if you’re uncertain about what types of beer pair best with game food, Bryce, About’s Guide to Beer, offers suggestions on what type of beer to serve at your Super Bowl gathering.
